Living a life by design means consciously and intentionally creating the life you desire. It involves setting goals, creating a plan, and acting towards achieving your desired outcomes rather than letting life happen to you or simply going with the flow. It also involves being aware of your values, passions, and purpose and aligning your actions and decisions with those core aspects of yourself. Living a life by design empowers you to take control of your life and create a meaningful and fulfilling existence.

Living your life by design means having a clear plan and purpose rather than drifting aimlessly. This is important for several reasons.

Firstly, it provides a clear direction, helping you make decisions and align with your goals.

Secondly, it brings fulfilment and satisfaction as you work towards something meaningful and progress personally and professionally.

Thirdly, it provides focus and motivation, helping you prioritise your time and resources and stay motivated during challenging times.

Fourthly, it promotes personal growth and development, pushing you to step out of your comfort zone and acquire new skills.

Lastly, living your life by design leads to increased happiness and well-being, giving you control over your life and allowing you to shape it according to your values and aspirations. Overall, living your life by design empowers you to create your desired life, leading to a happier and more meaningful life.

Here are 10 steps to create a life by design:

  1. Self-reflection: is a crucial practice that allows you to delve into the depths of your being, uncovering what truly defines you, what holds utmost importance in your life, and what ignites your joy and fulfilment. It is a journey where you explore and understand not only your strengths and weaknesses, but also your values and passions – elements that serve as your compass, leading you towards crafting a life that harmonises with your authentic self. By devoting some time daily to self-reflection, you give yourself an essential tool for personal growth and ultimate alignment.

2. Define your vision: Envision how you want your life to look in the long term. What kind of relationships, lifestyle, career, and personal growth do you desire? Write down a clear and compelling vision statement that inspires you and captures your ideal life.

3. Set SMART goals: Break down your vision into specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals. Each goal should be aligned with your overarching vision and reflect what you want to accomplish in various areas of your life, such as relationships, health, career, and personal development.

4. Create an action plan: Develop a detailed plan with actionable steps that will lead you towards your goals. Break your goals into smaller tasks, set deadlines, and prioritise them. Be flexible and adapt your plan as needed, but always keep focused on the bigger picture.

7. Embrace being human. Recognise that life is full of surprises, uncertainties, and unexpected challenges. Embrace the unpredictability and learn to adapt and adjust your plans when needed. Cultivate resilience, problem-solving skills, and a positive attitude to thrive amidst the complexities of life.
