If you are looking for a natural way to keep yourself and your loved ones healthy, you have found your answer!

What are essential oils:

The simplest way of explaining what essential oils are is scented liquids taken from certain plants using steam or pressure. The oils contain the natural chemicals that give the plant its "essence," a specific odour and flavour. The ways of using essential oils can be:

· medicine,

· perfume,

· aromatherapy,

· food flavouring.

A more technical definition would be that essential oils are extracted from volatile, aromatic. Compounds are found in the flowers, bark, leaves, resin, stems, roots, and plants seeds or piths of citrus fruits and are a treasure for their enhancement of beauty, flavour, and health.

Why use essential oils:

The reason essential oils are so beneficial to have in every home is they are powerful promoters of physical, mental, and emotional health; they are backed by growing scientific validation, and this rediscovery of holistic self-care with oils is very popular.

Some benefits are listed below:

  • Rejuvenating the skin and overall health.
  • It could improve moods.
  • Supporting a feeling of calmness.

Please note in this blog; I will mention carrier oil; this can be any oil that can be used with the essential oil- to apply on the skin, I normally use fractionated coconut oil; however, you can use any oil that you have. I like this one as it is not greasy, and I can use it on my face and body, and it feels lovely. Also, when applying oils on skin, the absorption is better with a carrier oil.

1.Lemon Oil (also known as the oil of focus)

Lemon oil is part of the citrus family, where the citrus trees grow juicy fruit with a pulpy rind in warm climates. This oil is cold-pressed or steam distilled from the rind. Lemon oil is a must for all households and one of the cheapest oils. This oil restores energy, mental flexibility, and the drive to complete a project.

The top properties of Lemon essential oil are:

  • Uplifting
  • Energising
  • Calming
  • Detoxing

Disclaimer: Please be mindful that when you put this oil and other citrus oils on your body, you should avoid exposure to the sun. This is a side effect of an increase in photosensitivity. In addition, your skin could become irritated when exposed to the sun.

How you can use Lemon oil in your life today:

  • Diffusing with this oil in the morning will make you energise and ready for your new day; if you do have other citrus oils like Lime, Litsea and Wild Orange, you can do a blend in your diffuser as soon as you wake up, and this will give everyone in your household a great start to their day.

  • Do you usually need something at 3 pm, a pick me up? Instead of reaching for your chocolate or something else sweet, grab your lemon oils, drop one to two drops in your hand, and inhale and exhale deeply. This will fight off your exhaustion and your 3 pm sugar craving.
  • Have a glass spray bottle and will it with water and drop 10-15 drops of lemon oil in there and shake well, and you can use this for your kitchen to smell amazing. Also, have this as your bathroom spray, and you can play with the oils here, depending on which one you have on hand.

Have you heard of the Blood-Brain Barrier?

This is a network of blood vessels and tissue made of closed space cells that help keep harmful substances from reaching the brain. However, the BBB lets substances such as water, oxygen, carbon dioxide and cereal anaesthetics pass into the brain.

The blood-brain barrier is to combat the toxins/pathogens that are circulating that could cause brain infection, which at the same time allow the vital nutrient to reach the brain. This oil contains certain sesquiterpene constituents which can directly cross the blood brain barrier which is amazing.

I recommend putting your diffuser on 2 hours before your kids go to bed, and this will support them and your whole family in a restful night's sleep.
  • A feeling of grounding is excellent to apply if you do meditation; apply this oil with a carrier oil and use this on your third eye (the area between your eyebrows).
  • A drop in your mouth on its own (an oil that has no filler, please read the labels) can support immunity and health (please check with your Dr. if you have any health conditions).

How to make an aromatic dressing – instead of using cream?

You know that creams are made up of water, an emulsifier of some sort, and wax.

Essential oils on their own can’t penetrate through the skin and into the cells and blood by themselves, so if you mix it with carrier oil, this will nurture your body and keep your skin smoother for longer.

  • Aromatic Dressing. This beautiful ritual could incorporate into your day, morning, or evening. It only takes a few minutes; however, you feel fantastic for doing this self-care for yourself. Best to do this after a shower or bath! Below is a recipe card examples of oils; however, you can make what is best for you daily. We do not feel the same each day, so it helps support our body and mind with what we need.

Which oil do you find interesting?

What health concerns are you currently having?

What is one thing you have learned and could share?

What is one thing you could start doing today to assist you or a loved one?

To Conclude:

Our sense of smell is an incredibly powerful thing and can produce strong emotional and mental responses depending on how the various aromas react with our brain. Essential oils interact with the olfactory sensors in our brain. In addition, the olfactory system is connected to our limbic system, where our memories and emotions are stored.

When we use essential oils are used automatically, they are inhaled, absorbed through the lungs, and circulates through the blood system. Breathing in essential oil triggers reactions based on our unique experiences, memories, emotions, and behaviours. This is why using oil automatically is a significant component of managing our moods and emotions! Nothing is more memorable than a smell.

This blog contains a lot of information about essential oils; please do not feel overwhelmed. However, the best way to approach this is to choose one oil you like, try it, and see how you can use them, start doing this as a regular thing.

When we feel overwhelmed, we do nothing, do something instead of nothing. Can you think of any area in your life that could use support from one of the oils we discussed?
